I’ve been really busy the past 24 hours setting up a new web server for Maylene Web Development. It’s based around Ubuntu 10.04 and it’s looking pretty awesome so far. Once it’s up and running, I’ll being moving my clients’ sites over. Unlike the current server (which was in the US), this one is in London.

The extra capacity means that I’ve been able to update Maylene’s hosting plans. Essentially, they’ve all doubled in storage space. The high-end plans, Pro and Max, have also come down in price. Max used to be £65 a year for 250MB space – now it’s £50 a year for 500Mb!

My personal site was only a year old, and was already looking dated and basic compared to some of my more recent work.

A lot of cool stuff is happening, particularly in my work. As always, I focus very heavily on code quality and accessibility, building top-notch sites that work across browsers and platforms, from PC to Mac to mobile phones. But now I’m focussing a lot more on aesthetics too.

There’s no reason why a well-written, semantically-correct site can’t look good. That’s what I aim to prove with the sites I build, and what better place to start than my own site.
